I am curious to see how many books I will read this year and decided to keep an on going list.

1. "The MacKade Brothers: Rafe and Jared" - Nora Roberts

2. "Holly Would Dream" - Karen Quinn
(the above and a whole bunch more on my shelves to be read were given to me by my sis who believes I should read more love stories)

3. "What French Woman know about Love, Sex and other matters of the Heart and Mind" - Debra Ollivier -This is a great exploration of the difference between North American women French women. A lot to be learned, but mainly not to take things too seriously.

4. "Eat, Prey, Love" - Elizabeth Gilbert
Just like the author I ate every single carb in sight while in Italy. I am currently in the search of peace and inner contempt. Fell in love with her description of Bali!
Also I know 'smile with my liver' when I center myself.

5. "He is Just not That into You" - Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo
Laughed all the way though the book. Lots of the mistakes I have made, lots of the mistakes I will never make again. The lesson is simple: if he is not making you fully happy he is not 'the one' and he is just not that into you! Move on!

Of course the theme for the last two months has been Valentine's day.
As much as I used to love V-day, this year I felt extremely overwhelmed by the outrageous amount of pink that had covered the world like a tidal wave.
Once I got started on the pink - heart trail, there was no stopping! Here is a little taste of the pink-ness!

I tried my hand at drawing a character for the first time. The theme was Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

One of my guilty pleasures every winter and summer is having a fantabulous lunch during _licious at a restaurant that may be a bit out of my price range on regular basis.
This winter the ladies and I chose the beautiful Sassafraz restaurant.

We had beautiful food and I annoyed my friends by practicing my newly learned photography skills.

When the food is this good, I believe it is time for less talk and more pictures!

For this carb free (almost carb free) girl the bread was divine

and bread does not go without butter

Appetizer of Smoked Salmon Carpaccio with Pommery Mustard Mousse,

Followed by Cod Cakes with Andouille Sausage, Watercress Salad and Bell Pepper Remoulade

Re-use those lovely note cards - Tutorial

I never have the heart to throw away the wonderful cards I received from friends, family, customers and swap partners. I also always run out of cards to send to those people as well.
This is why I decided to start re-vamping cards I have received into treasures that I can send out again.
Re-use, re-cycle, re-love!

What you will need:

Old Cards
Card stock
Glue
Stamps, letter stickers etc

Start with measuring out one of your cards and cutting a few new cards out of your card stock. I was lucky enough to pass by a garage sale and find an old gentleman getting rid of a nice variety of card stock.

Fold and score the new cards

Select a card that you would like to use to create your new cards, I picked this funky colourful polka dot card.

And then I cut out the funky dots

I decided to stamp the word "Thanks" on my cards, but you can do anything you like

Here I cut a note card into strips for a funky block style new card

The best part about this is that really anything goes!!!

For envelopes, I unglued one the envelope the original card came in and used it as a template.

I picked some large enough pages of old magazines I had received in a supply swap to make my new envelopes out of and traced the template on them.

You can recycle all of your Christmas cards this way and be ready to send them out next Holiday season!!!

Creative Process...

I found that my crazy schedule leaves very little time for me to be creative. I lack the focus when it comes to actually work on my art, even though I am always craving to do so.
I found a mini temporary solution to this: Join Swap-bot swaps for either note cards or ATCs. This gives me a serious time line I need to meet and having a deadline helps me focus. Also, it allows me to stretch my brain a little to come up with an idea to satisfy a theme. I have been joining swaps with random themes in order to be able to come up with ideas that I wouldn't of otherwise.

I love looking at other artists work and process of coming up with a final finished piece, and I decided to share with you my creative process.

The theme for the ATC is Love. The word Love has to be somewhere on the ATC.

First I start out with sketching out ideas, not necessarily related to what I will end up putting together. In this case, I was just browsing and using different images to sketch out ideas of things...

After I have my sketch and idea, I decided that I want to create a cut paper illustration of the bunny idea.
Therefore, I had to choose the papers I will use in the piece. I am the least organized person when it comes to my supplies, and thus I usually have no idea what I have and work from the latest I have purchased. One day I will be organized, one day...

And now time for lots of cutting and gluing takes place. Of course I am super messy and sticky when I use glue.

And here we have an almost finished ATC... I let it sit for a bit until I figured out how to finish it

And finally the back receives a label and my contact information, next stop the post office!

Creating these ATCs to trade also allows me to come up with an idea for an ACEO to add to my shop

It feels like I am starting to enjoy my city to the fullest for the first time!
Until now, I was more of a night owl exploring the hottest night clubs, but this year I am acting a bit more my age (did I just say that) and actually venturing out during the day.

As many of you were aware there was a little thing going on called world cup...and Toronto had a pretty awesome street party to celebrate the 3rd place and finals games.

I made it to the party in time to see Alex Cuba perform and do a little salsa two step on the streets.

After this we headed down gallery and old appliances stores filled Queen West

to find the Sneak Peek Exhibition at the Gladstone hotel showcasing the work of the KeyHole Session Artists

After we had enough of the sometimes tasteful sometimes not nudes we headed back on the search of food.
Found the very interesting and very full Unmarked restaurant that may also be called nude (that remains unknown at the moment)

but decided to eat somewhere more in our price range. Summerlicous is on and there are awesome priced meals there but we were not in the mood for a 4 course meal.

"Sex and the City II"

A pleasure, simply a pleasure movie.
Love love loved it!

If you are a closet Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte or a Carrie you will enjoy this movie top to bottom.
This movie was the perfect Friday night escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday gray life.
The colors, the shoes, the friendships and of course the loves are back and just as wonderfully shiny as ever.

In several reviews the plot line is harshly abused, but for me it was simply perfect. Exploring the real life challenges with love, marriage, and age made this movie easy to relate to and enjoy. After all, you can wear designer gowns and have all the men in the world and still eventually end up with a major hot flash in the middle of a dessert!
Plus the gorgeous background of Abu Dhabi can be almost the 5th character in this movie.

So I say watch it, love and then see it at least once more for the shoes and then again for the clothes ;)

For I will always be a whole lot of Samantha in Carrie's shoes with Miranda's practicality and a touch of Charlotte's innocence.

Overall, this movie deserves 4.5 lip balms out of 5!

"Alice in Wonderland"

This was my first IMAX 3D experience and with that a few words of advice: Do not be late for a popular move as you will have to sit in the second row and watching an IMAX movie that close to the screen is a horrid experience. For me it was migraine inducing and I couldn’t wait for the movie to be over.

Apart from most scenes being blurry due to my proximity to the screen, visually this movie was breath taking. If this movie earned bonus points for visuals, it lost them in story line. I am not very familiar with the original but the movie story line was bare, overly simplistic, predictable and simply boring.

I don’t usually read reviews prior to seeing a movie, and made the mistake of doing so prior to seeing Alice. One aspect that struck me was reviewers’ opinion of Mia Wasikowska’s acting as emotionless. While watching the movie I couldn’t help myself, but focus on her emotionless face and think that she could have done wonders with this role.

On the other hand, Johnny Depp’s mad hatter was simply lovable and made me want to give him a giant hug. Those giant colorful eyes were magical. And the Red Queen's insecure madness was extremely well played, leaving me to feel sorry for her poor soul.

Over all I give it 3/5 lip balms. Yes go see it, but sit in the back!

What's new, pussycat....woooaoaoaaa

As I buckle down to focus on the last 3 months of my program, which means that all I will have time for is to Tweet and occasionally blog how horrible my life is, I decided to take this weekend and focus on my Etsy shop.

Friday I was able to drive myself through the horrible rainy day to the Toronto convention centre for the Bead Oasis Show. Being around all of the beads and materials, inspired me for this very productive weekend.

In my attempt to make friends with winter I headed over to ice cold Ottawa for a weekend.
Started out with a little cold walk amongst the ice sculptures

It was ice cold yet packed. Ottawanians have no fear of the cold!

I really liked the recycled garden. Eco chic, eco art.

The Rogers Ice lounge... not exactly what I expected as I was looking for something more like the icy palace in James Bond and Die Another Day...

Of course no trip is complete without a skate on the Rideau Canal.

Over all, I am really really happy that the weather was wonderful, minimum snow to damper my mood. Icy cold sunshine and perhaps I am a little friendlier with the winter season.

What better excuse than NYE to wear a disco ball outfit and play up my make up.
I am absolutely addicted now to experimenting with all of the make up and different colours and such out there, gone are the days of pink eyeshadow and a dash of black eyeliner.

Incredibly smooth skin thanks to Revlon's Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer and liquid foundation. The primer is incredible and just perfect for a night when you know you will be photographed a LOT.

a) if a tree is taller than me it is not 5ft and
b) if it spans from the back to the front of the car than it definitely is not 5ft tall

A little bit more my size and that much easier to sneak in and later out the apartment building ;)

I am trying to keep creative even though I work with numbers for 10 hours a day only to come home and study about numbers.
In order to try and keep my creative juices from drying up... which they often do, I signed up for a whole bunch of ATC swaps on Swap-bot

Somehow I went from planning to be a pirate for a year.... to maybe Batman (yes I realize I am a girl and still BatMAN) to a hastily put together fairy. And after a lot of great anticipation I felt extremely tired yesterday and the night almost didn't happen.
But it did and I had the perfect excuse to play with my make up ....

I don't know how I caught the cooking bug, but I have and I am not sure that I want to shake it.
I think it is the new job. My coworkers love to share their food at lunch and are always bringing in new things and so I had to follow suit.
I started out with the simplest and most yummy Banana Bread

Lex's Banana Bread (named after my coworker's wife, whose recipe this is)

1/2 cup of creamed butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 very ripe bananas
2 tbsp milk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups flour

Cream the butter and add the sugar, egg, banana and milk together. Blend well. Add all dry ingredients together then add to the wet mixture. Should fit into a 9 inch, greased baking dish.
Bake at 350F for 35 to 40 mins. Simple I told you!

Apart from desserts, I have also ventured into my favourite mama recipes too.

oh how I wish Sundays did not end with Mondays...

This weekend I found myself living the life of shut-in as my only venture into the real world was a quick but expensive trip to the pet store followed by another quicker trip to the art supply store.
The rest of the time I was somewhere in between the piles or should I say mountains of supplies that I own.

I gathered and packaged my Journaling supplies swap

Two packages to fly of to different sides of the world.

I also completed another swap titled "Flowered ATCs: Daises"

I haven't worked on mixed media projects in a while and I thought that the best way to get myself back in the groove would be if I signed up for a few swaps.
My style is a bit different now and the whole process has evolved for me. I actually sketched, picked out the papers & organized them prior to starting. I used to just splash things together before.
The swap called for 2 ATCs and I created one slightly different to put in the Shop! as an ACEO.

Class is fast approaching again, my first assignment is due on Oct 9th.
In a race against time I am trying to read as many books before I hit the study books again. Once it starts I won't be able to come up for air until next June.

In the last month, I finished the 5th installment of Stephen King's Dark Tower series (I have been reading the series on and off for the past 5 years).

Interestingly enough this book mentioned a devise called a seeker and a little wizard by the name of Harry Potter. Yes Stephen King manages to bring in all kinds off strange things in his books, usually it is characters from his other stories.
So guess the title of the next book that I read...

A while back I decided to give in and read the Harry Potter books. I had never read them or watched the movies, so I decided to catch up with the world. One of my new coworkers handed me the first book in the series the morning after I finished the King book. Coincidence? Or in the words of King "ka" ;)

I finished Harry Potter in one breath, well a week. Now I must watch the first movie and see the visuals.
Next on my reading list is

I usually let some time pass between the Dark tower books but as I told you I am in a race against time.

After this I want to read

Finish the dark tower series and Harry Potter. I don't think I will get pass the the above book in time though, but we will see...

The last week in review

...getting used to the new job is taking it's tole on me.
My brain is overloaded and I can't wait until I understand it inside and out. Luckily at least corporate finance is the same across the board, it's the ins and outs of my new company that are 'interesting'. So far I do like the people and atmosphere, it is nothing like my old company (well more like my department was managed poorly).

Since I am trying to get used to a new schedule, I have been having a hard time falling asleep and thus more playing on the computer.

A day off looking back to another day off...

In a last minute decision yesterday I decided to take today off. I had a very stressful week both professionally and personally and I just needed to sleep in and recharge my batteries. Perhaps you can call this a mental health day ;)
Two weeks ago I had the Monday off, instead of Canada day. You see working in finance means that you close the books and not take a day off even if it is a national holiday. Anyway, Amy and I traveled, got lost, and eventually found our way to Blue mountain for a overnight little get away.
We were a bit confused to walk around the Blue Mountain village wondering what people do at night there. Well I thought this is when you get your sweater, sit on the cool chairs and talk the night away. We are used to always search for entertainment and some kind of stimulus that not doing anything is a foreign concept.
My new promise to myself is to try to find the calm and peace in a Friday night in, just me, myself and the cat. Stop rushing and always pushing forward, looking constantly for more and wanting more. I will learn how to be thankful for all that I have, all that I have achieved and be at peace with myself.

What is in a goal...

Are we supposed to have a very specific plan in life?
One that specifies accomplishments and deadlines?
A friend of mine just had her baby and it comes exactly at the age she planned to have it at and around the birth date she had picked out for it.
Is that too much?
I don't have a plan, I don't have a set goal of where I want to be and at what specific age. The only thing I plan on planning for is retirement since it involves monthly savings starting now and a little investment will get you a long way if you plan right. But when it comes to being married by this age, having a child by this age and basically mapping out my life I haven't done that. I don't intent to do it either, but does that set me back?
Is marriage an accomplishment, a milestone that would make me into me or is living my life and trying to think outside the box a better description of myself? Am I falling behind because I am 25, single and with no intention to settle? I am starting to move forward in my career and I consider that an accomplishment. Developing the way I see the world and how I think through experiences and education are a better definition of who I am than anything else. I don't understand how some people see being single as a set back, and all that I strive for should be to meet a man. To be honest I want to meet the man, but just not a man in order to meet some deadline set out by society and meeting him will be an extension of who I already am not my entire being.

The past week was a hard week, very sad week for a good friend who lost her little brother in a tragic accident. 23 is too young to loose your life.

I don't handle death well and am very useless when it comes to providing support. I will do my best to be there and to show that I will do anything to support the person but at the same time I am one foot out the door.

I went to the viewing on Friday afternoon and the sadness was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

This was my second viewing ever and it was again open casket. I don't understand this as I think that it would make things even harder for the family to see their beloved laying there not to get up. A photo slide show played in the back. I didn't know him, but it made me extremely sad to the point that I was frozen in my seat unable to move. Perhaps it makes it easier for the family to say good bye and yet I would prefer to have the last memory of someone still running around smiling, not this sad sleep, simply gone to the world. Tradition is tradition and we all handle things in our own way. I will not have open casket for anybody.

I stayed for an hour and a half and had to leave. I made sure that my friend knew she can reach out to me at any time and I will be there, but I had to leave. I had to leave and distract myself in some mindless stupid ways. Everything becomes unimportant and trivial when a life is lost and yet I had to run out of there and do stupid senseless tasks. I feel really bad about this but sadness makes me shut down and run. It leaves me cold and I go to a place deep inside of me where I don't feel. I think this makes me a bad person because I should be better at providing support instead of being selfish. If the tables were turned I am sure she would be a better friend than I am. I am sorry.

My sister said that this is how I handle things. I run because I feel more than I should and sympathize with the person to an extreme where I end up being hurt. This is how I deal with death, not because I am cold hearted but the opposite, according to her.

I feel like I really let her down and I hope that she forgives my desire for self preservation. She has every right not to forgive me.

I don't understand death; I can't imagine what happens to the person when they are gone. One minute here, the next where? I need explanations for everything and there is no explanation for this. I believe that the soul continues its journey, but how I don't know. We are not supposed to know, knowing will bring us closure. The end of a life should be celebrated, I don't want anyone to cry or wear black when my day comes. I want them to wear colourful clothes and laugh and celebrate who I was, hopefully who I still am somewhere...

This brings me back to the fall and when the person I was dating at that time lost his mother. It was 2 weeks into the 'relationship' and it was a time when I was even more emotionally unstable. Now looking back, I can see that he had a need for my support and I let him down. In the week prior to the funeral I was always in touch with him, driving 200km in day to see him, go to work, see him again and finally go home. I thought that I was doing a lot, but now I think that it wasn't enough. I didn't know what my role was with him, was I a friend? Was I the girlfriend?
I didn't mention anything about going to the visitation and funeral because I wanted to try and avoid it. Honestly, I didn't think that he wanted me there. It is a family and close friends type of event and I didn't feel like I fit in either of those groups. The night before the visitation he asked me if I was going as if it was something that I didn't need an invitation for...
I went as late as possible because I had never gone to something like this and was truly trying to avoid it. I sat in the back; my eyes fixated on his mother, my hands in tight fists, nails digging into my skin while the rest of my body was frozen. I couldn't get up; I couldn't walk to the front because I simply shut down.
I talked to him when he came around; I waited for him after it was over. While waiting I tried to be invisible, I tried to imagine myself anywhere but there.
All I could think about was that if it was me, I wouldn't be able to leave the funeral home; I wouldn't be able to leave my mother.
He picked a fight with me that night, he said we were incompatible. I acted foolish as I ran out. I called the next afternoon and apologized even though there was nothing to apologize for as I hadn't done anything. I though the anger was just directed towards me because he had to let it out somehow.
The next day was the funeral; I didn't go because I had to work. I had a lot to finish at work because the following day I was going on a 4 day trip to New York City with my best friend. A trip planned and paid for long before this.
I was thankful to have this escape because the situation was driving me insane. It was too heavy for me to deal with and I had to run. Everyone I talked to told me that I was doing the right thing for myself. Most people said that they would have stayed away from the whole situation instead of being there like I was. I thought that I had done a lot and now had to get away save my own skin.
I can say right now looking back that it was a childish to run away. I should have been stronger; I should have stayed back and made sure I provided the support that was needed.
It is too late now to change things and to tell you that I am sorry.

This was a very good week for the Shop!

I sent out my first newsletter to past customers and friends. If you would like to be included and receive the next one let me know.

I am getting ready for the Big on Bloor show on the 20th.

I had a customer who purchased my Fresh earrings come back and order a custom matching bracelet. This was the first ever bracelet made by me and I think I am going to make a few!

And also a custom label lip balms were ordered from a returning customer.
Returning customers make me really happy because it means they are happy with their purchases and I must have done something right ;)

And as per my Sister's request I know have Coconut lip balm flavour in the shop!!!

On Friday I checked the online paper for Garage sales in my area and believe it or not I was up at 8am on Saturday in order to venture out and find some goodies before someone else snatched them up.

Here is what I ended up with for $24 !!!

My favourites are the TV tray and suitcase!

The idea behind this little trip was to find some way to display my earrings at the upcoming Big on Bloor craft show. I didn't think that my couch cushions will really cut it for another year.

Here is what I did

Step 1: Found a very large wooden frame for all of $3, I paid $5 for the frame and suitcase!

Step 2: Tear apart the frame and remove the painting, glass and backing. Here is where I warn you to make sure you are careful and have a tetanus shot as the staples can be very old and dangerous as they may fly in the air...

Step 3: Apply at least 2 coats of latex paint, I purchased a tester can from the hardware store for $6 in Cocoa Mousse.

*** Very important, let the paint dry. I don't have patience and well I was covered in paint. Also cover up the surface you are working on as paint likes to drip and also fly in the air***

Step4: Use thumb tacks to attach window mesh and cardboard to the frame. Also do not try to use your thumb to push in the thumb tacks it will hurt, find a hammer. In my case call one of your best friends and ask if her dad has an extra one kicking around. Also it was hard keeping my cat from helping, that's his thumb in the picture.

And here is what I now have

I just finished putting a second coat of paint on a smaller frame that will be used for the same purpose.

I worked really hard today and my poor fingers really hurt from wire wrapping and opening / closing jump rings.

I promised myself to do my best to update the Shop! almost daily with new items this summer.

Lately I have been trying to give a little to do the world. I don't have money for donations and hardly time, but it is worth the effort and right now my time is easier to go without. One day I will love to be able to write the big anonymous cheques but until that day I will give you my time.

For the past month I have been volunteering every Tuesday as a Big Sister to a 10 year old boy. Together we join other coworkers of mine and their 'littles' for a fun 2-3 hour activity. We went hiking in the rain this Tuesday, glow in the dark mini putting, visited a boring museum... overall a little fun.

I don't have a lot of (well any) experience with kids and this experience has taught me to never try to take care of 20 boys at the same time.

But at the end of the day to see their smiles warms the heart and makes me feel that I have done something to make someone else happy.

Also in the theme of giving back, one of my coworkers is planning to Walk for Boobies

in order to help find a cure for breast cancer. She needs to raise $2,000 in order to participate. Since I am not financially able to write the cheque I want to and fully respect her cause, I am doing the next best thing I can...

Today I really miss my mom and wish she wasn't across the ocean so that I can spend the day with her. Yes I am first to admit that I am a little jealous of everyone spending the day with their mamas. On the other hand I realize how much I took her for granted when she was within easy reach.

Really if you would like a quick and up to date account on what I am up to visit my little Twitter page ;)

I have been incredibly busy with everything else including dreaming of working on art work but actually creating.
I recently managed to get out the ink and turn out a new Lino and woodblock print

Now I have a big Case exam on May 14th, and instead of studying I have been sitting around and simply shooting myself in the foot, since this is a career defining exam.
Good job me, now I wish I can find some motivation & concentration.
I hope to get out of work by 4pm tomorrow, and spend 2 hours studying at a coffee shop prior to picking up my Little Brother for our weekly 2 hour activity. I think I forgot to mention, that I am volunteering as a Big Sister & it has been challenging.

well perhaps for just one day, but I took full advantage of the sunshine and headed for the Beaches in Toronto

I discovered the boardwalk and beach last year for the first time at the end of the summer and this year I will be there every weekend. Just a weekend beach bum ;)
I can't believe I didn't know how wonderful it is there all of these years.

I even enjoyed my first Ice Low Fat Light Ice Latte of the season ;)

I decided to go by the water and look for sea glass. Lately I have been looking at wornderful jewlery made out of sea glass and thought if I would be lucky enough to find a piece... well

I am going to wire wrap some of the bigger pieces and perhaps get my hands on a drill...
Anybody worked with sea glass before? Ideas...
I may put some in the shop as supplies...

Saturday night I celebrated my best girl's birthday with a night of dancing. I was a bit of a 5th wheel since it was two couples and me but hey I tend to have fun no matter what.

The grey blahs of winter are almost over, I see the sun outside that is actually starting to hurt the eyes instead of it struggling to show behind the grey haze of clouds and coldness.

My little trip to Ottawa last weekend, left me smiling as I climbed on the last little pile of snow ;)

I am excited for the long warm days when working late won't matter because the sun will still be out at 9pm. I can't wait to feel the warm from the sun as it gently (I say gently because I will be wearing 30spf sunscreen) tans my skin.

Summer is coming!!!!

13 Things about me...

Well it’s supposed to be 15 things, but it is Friday the 13th so you only get 13…

1. I never take anything at face value. I have to know who, what, when and most importantly why. I have to know the reasons behind decisions and it all has to make sense ( for asking myself ‘does it make sense?’ all the time, I blame my boss)

2. I am in love with Valentines day. Always have been, even as a little girl when boys were the last thing I was interested in. Now, I believe in this one night when you can look into your partner’s eyes and celebrate your love. Everyday you may take each other for granted but on Vday you concentrate on each other and your love. This is my first single Valentines day in many years and it will still be special. Yes I am a hopeless romantic and always will be.

3. I am jumping out of a plane in late May or June.

4. I just calculated that I have 4 more years of full time work and school: 1.5 years to become a Certified Management Accountant and 2 years to get my part time MBA. But honestly by then I may decide to become Dr Iva and go after a PhD. My ambition will be the end of me one day.

5. I am not a morning person. I hate waking up early. I hate alarm clocks. I am at work at 7:30am every day and it is over half hour drive… this is a big contradiction, so you can imagine that I am not really awake until my regular 9:15am coffee

6. Growing up I was always afraid of animals, even small ones. I was even scared of Tiger when he was a kitten, but he was way too loveable and now we are inseparable. Rea was another story, as a puppy she was all teeth and nails but thanks to her now I am not as scared of dogs.

7. I only have 1 DVD in my ‘collection’. I never really want to watch a movie twice and have always lived with someone with many DVDs. Amy gave me “Sex and the City” season 3 this Christmas and this it sits lonely on my TV stand.

8. I used to worry about the future and always make sure that everything was planned out. I had the ‘perfect’ life all set out for me and was getting there. On my 24th birthday last year, I let go. I stopped planning and let life be, I have never been happier.

9. Iva is the name of the Weeping Willow tree in Bulgarian. My future company will probably be called that.

10. My love for the colour red is getting out of hand. Red hair, red handbag, red wallet and now a red blackberry. It makes me happy.

11. I am really good at hiding my real feelings.

12. I am told that I have beautiful eyes at least 5 times a day and out of those 5, 3 people ask me if I am wearing contacts. No I am not, my eyes do change colour depending on the light around me and the colours I am wearing. I love every single compliment and it always makes me smile.

13. I don’t have patience. I can never wait and always want everything NOW. If I want something I go after it and never wait for it to come to me. Once every few months I try to teach myself to wait and let things happen… it hasn’t worked yet. It is my biggest flaw, but at the same everything I have accomplished is because of it too.

Tourist for the Day

An event I discovered last year in my little city of Toronto is Winterlicious . Great, out of my price range, restaurants have set menus for a lot lower price. Today I had lunch at the top of the CN tower, something that I really really wanted to do. Now this is not the famous spinning 360 restaurant, but the Horizons restaurant , still 100% worth it.
Just check out this view from our table:

and the menu was pretty good for $15 and $10 to get up there
I started with Smoked Salmon Salad

Followed by a Chicken Pot Pie

and a Sour Cream Ice cream and Apple crumble

and if you are up there you have to go on the glass floor of the CN tower and sit on it like all of the tourists :)

Actually most people are scared of the glass floor. It does feel a little weird at first but really nothing freaky about it. And really I am a tourist in my own city as I hardly ever visit the attractions. This is only the second time I have been up there.

I wonder how I will change over a year. How my view of the world will change, what I will look like and if I will be happier.
I took this photo at the end of the day on the 22nd, tired and stressed and confused and feeling ice cold towards most parts of my life. Wishing that things are just black and white, yes and no, forward or backward, stop or go.
On the other hand I am thankful for my friends and my family. I am happy that my brother is back and living with me. My one bedroom apartment is a mess but it is a home. I am happy that when my sister visits she calls my apartment "home".

Just in time for the Holidays I have two new earring designs in the Shop!

My favourite right now are these Little Stars

My Christmas tree is up, I wanted a small one but somehow I got one that reaches all the way to my ceiling and my carpet will forever hold its needles. Oh well the apartment officially smells like Christmas, now I only wish I had someone special to share it with... maybe next year.

I learned how to add textures and layers in Photoshop today. I am really proud of myself. ;) Now I am looking into photography lessons, since it has been a dream of mine to use photography as another layer in how I express myself.

After spending the weekend (16 hours in total) in class, I was lucky to have the day off from work today. I actually have a few days that I will try to fit in by the end of the year. I hope to have the last week of December entirely off, to just sit around and not do anything. Please Please Please.

My little sis spent the weekend here, and today we shopped 'till we dropped. ;)
I bought the cutest little skirt and tights ( I never thought that I would buy tights), to go with the skirt. The combo with my black boots is awesome!!!! I can't wait to wear the outfit ;)
Now I am getting ready for my week, that is only 4 days long!!!

Life has settled for me and finally I am back on track. Actually doing really well on my own and managing to find happiness in the little things around me. Like my sweet Tiger and the freedom that I have living on my own. To be honest embracing the single life leaves me very busy and in demand by my wonderful friends who don’t leave me a second of boredom.

I can almost smell the freedom. Imagine that a few months without my Accounting textbook to keep me company every night and weekend.

Any spare minute that I have, I am trying to prepare for my craft show on the 27th. Yesterday I made earrings and created this new design, "Joy".
I only have enough to make only these, so they are One of a kind for the next little while. My goal is to create as much inventory as I can without buying new supplies. I do have them in pink too, but I will keep them for the craft show, if they don't sell I will list them.
They are very cute and fresh ;)

Twice I have tried to buy a certain supply item from Etsy and twice I have met disappointing sellers.

The first time, the seller never mailed the item and is since deleted from Etsy for scamming others, not just me. Now I am out some hard earned moneys.

This week, again I tried to get the same item from someone else and was disappointed with the seller. Actually I first contacted the seller on May 25th

As a seller, I try to reply to all customers ASAP, sometimes it is not possible if I am away for a day or two, but generally I try my best to get back to them. I realize they want an answer fast and the item even faster.

As a customer, and I do buy a lot from Etsy, I want to be replied fast and be able to get my item as soon as possible.

I do have patience and know that not everyone is on line as much as I am. But please if someone contacts you for an item quantity that you do no have listed, you should know your inventory and reply. Not make me wait for you to find a lost stash and count it. If you say you have it and I ask, please list. Please list it, don't wait 2 or 3 days, given that I replied to you within minutes. Don't make me wait. I waited and waited, now I contacted the seller and backed out of the deal. I feel really bad about this, because if I say I am going to buy something I will. I was burned by another seller with bad communication and did not want to risk loosing money again.
I thanked her for her time, but as I need the item within two weeks, it is cutting close and I may not get them item. What is interesting that she replied to this convo within an hour.

Also, shipping to Canada from the US is not hard, and not scary. It is easy and cheap and as online seller you owe it to yourself to investigate. Don’t list outrageous prices to ship to Canada, because I have experience and know how much it will cost me. If I pay $6 for shipping and the sticker only says you paid $1.59, really do you think I will come back and shop from your store?

If you want customers to come back to you, reply to them and try your best to provide good customer service. It only takes minutes, but really it saves everyone time and money.
Now I have to buy the item I need, at a higher cost but at least I will know that I will have it in time......

Ok done with the rant, now back to the textbook ;)

I spent the day in a classroom and will be back again tomorrow. This is all in prep for my 'life' changing test in June.
To be honest I am not sure I want to be a CMA anymore, but I have a lot invested in it already, both in money and time...
I will continue to push forward. My reward will be my first vacation to see my family in July. I can't wait!

How are you?

Life is changing for me in a flash, one minute I am moving the next I am not.
The good news is that I don't have to study for the rest of the month and really hope to do some block printing this week or even perhaps a bit of painting.
I had a dream that I sold a few paintings, I really wish I would find the energy to really work on my so called art career. The current corporate life is slowly making me loose sense of who I am.

For now I am working on new accessories because they are fun and quick to do.

I find that earrings are an easy way to do something different, ie not work with numbers. I have been putting them in the Shop

I hope to have some time to print in the upcoming future, but it probably won't be until after my test on April 5th.

My brother joined me at the Bead Oasis show downtown yesterday and that was interesting. I found that a lot of the supplies I can get online and mainly on Etsy are a lot cheaper than from the vendors there. I did spend a bit too much on lovely handmade glass beads that are just incredibly beautiful.

I am really happy that this week is over.
I have been sick with a head cold since Monday. I managed to work from home almost the whole week.
Tiger was sick too. I took him to the vet and he got shots and now he doesn't like me very much. He had an upset tummy on Monday and a bit of a scratch under his chin. He is just sleeping and giving me unhappy looks.
I have to say Vets are very very expensive ;(

The picture to the side is of one of my prints framed. In my opinion a frame makes the pieces incredible!
Ok back to trying to relax and get better.

I needed something fresh and yummy to recover with and this Avocado shake is just the answer.
Smoosh 1 avocado in your blender
add a few ice cubes
Milk to top it off and blend blend blend.
Sugar to taste can be added too.

hehee it might be a funny green colour but it sure is supper yummy and refreshing.

got new work pants shortened ( they were less than $20, thus $7 for a nice hem is justified)

This is how tired I am trying to work over 10 hours a day and studying every night.
The test is next Satruday morning and after that I have 2 whole days and guess what I am doing....... apart from sleeping of course... painting and printing. The hope to be able to paint is what keeps me going.

A little gift to myself from myself.
When I was little my Grandfather used to take all 3 kids for hikes in the local woods. We always collected acorns. We had bags of them. Sadly my Grandfather passed way 7 years ago and I miss him dearly. Whenever I am sad and unhappy about life I usually see an acorn somewhere: On a tree, on the ground or in a picture. I know that it is him telling me life will be ok.
I asked tigerlillyshopto create a little acorn for me after seeing some of her other pieces. I simply love it and now I can wear the memory of my grandfather around my neck.

I have to say that I am a little lost as to which day of the week it is. Got to love vacation, even if it speeds awa too fast.

As I said before I am working on a few swaps over at www.swap-bot.com and here is the first one.
5 ATCs for 5 different themes.
At the Beach - I cheated by using my old artwork but I really wanted to use this image
Oriental - I layered red and flowery paper and drew in ink the bamboo.
Butterflies - a little ink illustration
Something Colorful - block print, that looks horible when scanned but really cool in person - yellow, orange and red
Dragonflies - a little cut paper illustration, I am really like working with cut paper, this one is my favorite.

I would have not created these if it was not for the swap and am glad that it makes me create more.

I have been feeling really blue for the last little bit and decided to go tanning yesterday. I have to say that it does help I never believed people when they say it makes them happy, but it really does work. I only went for 4 minutes but hey.

I am very excited that I managed to get out the ink and print a few new pieces.
I am discovering that I don't have enough colours and really need to do some online shopping for supplies. The art stores around me don't think that block printing is popular.

I also cut paper today to get it ready for printing. This is the least liked activity for me, I measure once and cut 5 times. ;(
There are a few 8x10inch pieces now and I can't wait to print a few big pieces.

Last weekend was the worse snow storm in years and I was on the road.
I went to Ottawa to visit my little sister, about a 5 hour drive from me.
I was smart enough to take the Greyhound bus there and back. The snow storm that hit Saturday night/ all day Sunday was horrible, it took me only 10 hours to get back.

It was worth the trip since I haven't seen the little one, well she is 2 heads taller than I am, since Thanksgiving - the Canadian one in October.
Ottawa is COLD, in this pic I have 3 hats on. 3! I had to buy thermal leggigs while I was there and walking around. I don't think I will be going to Ottawa in the winter again.

Today starts a whole week off for me, I won't be back to work 'till Jan 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Expect a lot of art and almost daily blog updates!
Wow I will be chilaxin' at home, I can't wait!!!

After returning from Florida I went into full study mode in order to write my 2nd exam this saturday.
Work and hours of study after was a crazy combination.
I didn't have time for me, for the people in my life, art, my cat nothing.
Now I sit here and can't believe how wonderful it is not to have to study.

I was bad this week and instead of studying I worked on art.
I sketched this block and just had to start carving it. It is larger than 8x10 inches and so far I have done some partial prints that you can see here

The inspiration behind is my trip to Algonquin at the end of August. Beautiful trees.
Last weekend I did buy some new papers that I have to cut up and play with. The hardest part of printmaking for me is cutting the paper. I am not a straight even lines kind of kid and I manage to get all kinds of funky pieces. But it has to be done.
This weekend the plan is to actually sleep and study and work on more art. I really would love to have a few 'portfolio' pieces both prints and paintings. I have to start contacting galleries. I really really have to.

Revisiting an old piece. I originally finished this piece in 2005 but recently re- touched it to make it more reflective of my current work.
As one of my first mixed media pieces I wanted to keep it just for me but now I am sharing it. It can be found in my Etsy shop!

This weekend was very busy for me. On Friday I went out "Swing Dancing" and had a very shady adventure with Amy. Yesterday, my friend Ashley and I went to Ikea and to a really good restaurant called The Spaghetti factory downtown Toronto. I was a bit upset when instead of packing my leftovers they threw them out ;( but life goes on. Ash and I managed to get a bit of beer in use and put together my new storage unit. Our adventures were till 3:30am . I am bit sleepy
Today I cleaned more of the mess in my apartment and figured out funky ways to hide the boxes from my parents' house. I am really glad I have a creative way of looking at things and managed to hide boxes all over the place.
Now I am off to dinner at Paul's parents' house. hehehee dinner with the 'in- laws' while he is in Europe.

Finally a moment to sit and take a deep breath.
All week I studied for my first test in the Accelerated CMA program. It was horrible to study for an exam when you are a week behind in your lectures.
On top of this my parents' left for Europe for good and I didn't have a chance to say goodbye. In true fashion they had left too much for the last minute and were in a frenzy. The good news they managed to get there safe and even have my doggie with them. No problems at all.
We also have a new addition to the family. My parents' cat is now my kitty. Sleeping ever so cutely on my bed ;)
Today I drove Paul to the airport, as he is leaving for Europe for 3 weeks. He comes back Nov 11, and I leave for my 5 days in Florida on the 10th. This means I won't see him until November 14th.
I think that everyone leaving has not hit me yet and soon there will be a crash. Stay tuned. yakes.

I plan to spend the week working on new artwork. Actually I want to work on the portfolio not the shop. I also have to figure out where to put all the stuff that moved here from my parents' house. And really clean the apartment since Mr long hair kitty has already covered the carpet in hair.

Finally, I managed to design these lovely new Holiday cards Shop! . A wonderful Holiday set to sent out to the loved ones in your world.

I have been really busy with work, packing up my parents' house over the Thanksgiving weekend and studying.
I managed to get some printing done this morning! and now I really really should be studying since my exam is next Saturday.

I am happy to say that I have booked my ticket to Florida! yey! I will be there for all of 4 days, but hey a vacation is a vacation even if it is very short.
Paul is going to Europe for a month, this leaves me all by myself. I wonder what kind of trouble I can get into...

I have been busy today, how about you?
I gave myself till noon to print today.
I tried to carve a new what turns out to be Ginkgo leaves woodblock, but after killing all of the little leaf tails I decided to carve it out of Linoleum. You can see my little cutie of a print now called 'In the Wind in the photo and of course already listed.

I also had a great sale! Another Self Image print sold today, yey I am at 3/50.

I bought Paul a new winter jacked that he loves, it is his Christmas/ 5 year anniversary present. But to think about it, I don't think he will be without a present under the tree.
We also went grocery shopping. He is now doing laundry at his parents' house while I am studying.
I will head over there for dinner soon. But for the next two hours it will be study time.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
I almost feel like saying " see you next weekened" since I hardly get to post during the week.

I woke up this morning to find that all four block prints I had in my shop were purchased by one person, including this one. How wonderful is that!
It was a great sale and I turned around and bought 100 stiff 8x10 envelopes for prints. This way I can be sure that all prints arrive undamaged all around the world.
Today I spent catching up on my course and I am still very behind. I don't know how this sounded like such a good idea a month ago to enroll in this program. The fact that I my brain is fried after work does not help in the least bit.
Right now I am done for tonight and am cutting up paper for more prints. Yey!

I have to admit I am a little crazy about woodblock printing. I have had a few failures and made stupid mistakes, like cut an awesome print to ATC size but instead of 2.5 inches I cut it to 2 and it no longer is useable. I am sure I will find a good use for all the cool scaps I am collecting.
Carving is really hard right now because I don't have the right wood and the proper tools, but one day soon.... I have to sell a few prints before I could affort to buy more materials. I guess this is a good time to point out that this ACEO is very available and in my Etsy Shop! ;p
The prints are hard to photograph, which makes me really miss my scanner. Another thing I am saving for, a new all in one printer.

I was really tired yesterday after work and shopping for work clothes. I can't ever find anything when I am looking for it.

I stopped over at the grocery store to pick up something. As I was slamming the door shut of my car I realized the radio is still on. Yep I locked my car from the outside while it was still running with the keys in the ignition.
I guess there is a first time for everything.
Paul came to my rescue since I was only five minutes from home.

I have a long list of things to do this weekend and it's not getting shorter.
I just finished, well I cheated and used some of the cards I already have, my little swap for Etsy Greetings. Checkout the link because my little photo cards are featured.

I also wanted to dye my hair black, to rebel you see, and did. Somehow I still have the same colour I started with. The dye didn't take.

I finished making the lip balm my sister ordered and packed the colab cards. I have to drop them off tomorrow at the Post Office.

I watched my first 5 hour lecture, I have to do the homework, watch the second one and do the second homework set.

I wanted to finish the Valentine swap prints. I have my little lino block ready to print. They are not due 'till February but I wanted to see them done, because they will be really cool looking.

I wanted to also print the new block I carved.
Ohh and the apartment is a mess and a half.
Paul wants to go apple picking so that we can bring the apples to his mom's for her to make pie.
The fridge is also empty.
